Kids Story Time

Who is W. Lyon Martin?

W. Lyon MartinThe author/illustrator of the Pagan children's books An Ordinary Girl, A Magical Child, Aidan's First Full Moon Circle & Watchers, W. Lyon Martin has followed a Pagan path all her adult life. She became a parent in March 1994, when her daughter was born.

She began to actively call herself Pagan in 1985 after she read Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler. She continues to read and research her chosen religion to achieve a better understanding of the Pagan Path and deepen her spiritual connection to the Goddess and God.

An Eclectic witch living in Eastern Missouri, she has written articles for Craft publications both on-line and in print including PanGaia, IF… (was PagaNet News), Broomstix, The Seeker Journal, NewWitch, Acorns Journal, Elements Magazine, Crescent Magazine, The Witch’s Voice and The Pagan-Wiccan Times.

She has been a working artist since 1981, when she received an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She continued her training at the School of Visual Arts where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1988. She has exhibited her watercolor paintings in art shows internationally. Her fine art paintings grace both public and private collections. Her illustration work has been featured in assorted publications, from books and magazines to corporate collateral materials and advertisements.

Lyon's Craft website, Magickware is geared toward unique handmade gifts, quality ritual supplies and fine art for the Pagan home. She lives with her husband, her daughter and two cranky cats of undetermined ancestry.

Peek inside Aidan's First Full Moon Circle!

Aidan's First Full Moon CircleAidan and his parents have been solitary witches for as long as he can remember. At the rising of the Harvest Moon, his family is invited to a local coven's Full Moon Esbat celebration. Aidan is jittery about joining a Circle full of strangers. While he is enjoying himself around the bonfire, the High Priestess and his mother cook up a plan to get him involved in the Harvest Moon ritual. Aidan learns he is an important member of the Pagan community.

While reading the story, children can help Seamus the squirrel gather enough acorns for the coming winter by finding where they are hidden within the captivating illustrations.

An enchanting, fictional tale of a Wiccan nighttime gathering, Aidan's First Full Moon Circle will engage young readers with magical images while introducing some coven ritual basics.

Peek inside A Magical Child!

An Ordinary Girl, A Magical Child Pagan children's bookA wonderfully illustrated Pagan kid's book that explores Pagan magic, Wiccan customs and holidays through one child's point of view.

...this work is an enjoyable romp along with Rabbit and her family as she learns about her religious path. The story is timeless, and the information within even more so. This book should be a required text for any religious study involving our youth — both Pagan and Non-Pagan ...Excerpt from the foreword, M. R. Sellars

Join Rabbit in a joyful spin around the Wheel of the Year as she celebrates with her family and learns about herself and her Pagan Ways.

This Pagan kid's book, An Ordinary Girl, A Magical Child is lavishly illustrated with original watercolor paintings. Written for school-aged children, whether they are being raised Pagan or just are curious about a friend or relative's spiritual Path, this book explains in a clear and gentle voice just what a Pagan is, what Wiccans believe and how one family celebrates throughout the year.

10 FEB 08

Greetings,

I am new to most of this, but live in the Boiling Springs area.  I run the small motel in Mooreland which is approximately 12 miles from the park. Rates are pretty reasonable but we do not accept credit cards. I just wanted to make you aware of us in case some did not want to camp for whatever reason. The motel is JBs Motel 580-994-5415. We may or may not have a vacancy during this weekend.

I hope to attend. Blessed Be. Iris

Sooj's Reviews

"Singer/songwriters take note, this is what you should be doing and how you should sound."

J-Sin Smother.net Editor's Pick

"She's got Dar [Williams]'s sardonic sincerity coupled with [Ani] DiFranco's passion, Janis Ian's vocal chops, and the deft guitar hands of Emily Saliers. Her lyrics swell up from the underworld where so many artists venture but few truly understand."
Phil Brucato NewWitch magazine, Dec '04 - Feb '05, review of Haphazard
Usually I would worry (I took 4 years to put out my first CD because everything had to be radio ready and perfect) when someone said they were LACKING in PRODUCTION, but THIS is LACKING of NOTHING! Her voice, her stories, her incredible guitar playing, and fun just blew me away. I felt like I was in a live concert at Living room or a coffee house.
singer-songwriter Kama Linden FemMuse.Com, review of Haphazard plus interview

"Tucker has a voice in a million -- powerful, hypnotic, untamed and yet utterly controlled. She sings from the gut, but hers is a trained instrument."
Maria Nutick Green Man ReviewAugust 15, 2004, review of July 30 concert in Portland OR
"First off, she can honestly sing like Joni Mitchell, no lie. With a swirl of acoustic strumming to back her, Tucker lets her most important instrument shine, that rich, sophisticated soprano voice of hers, one that would have landed such impressive originals as 'Face-down' and 'Heart Beat' on Blue back in 1971."
Bill Ellis Commercial Appeal, March 6, 2004, review of Haphazard
"I can't say enough good things about the little woman with the big voice. She sings from the heart and to the soul. Her lyrics are powerful, and her music, ethereal. Cultivating a folk sound, S J Tucker is working on a ten song release to come out in March."
Memphis Records In the Studio, 11/15/03
"S J Tucker is rather potent. Coming across like a fiery hybrid of Kristin Hersh and Fiona Apple and sometimes madly thrashing at her guitar, Tucker delivers a surprisingly energetic set. ...Impressive vocal control, sometimes running up the scale or jumping an octave here and there."
Kevin Renick Backstage Pass, Playback (St. Louis)
"You've got to love S J Tucker, the songstress who boldly strode onstage and competed against full bands—one woman, one guitar—no fear, no regrets. She has a lot of spunk and a lot to say."
Kelley Bass "In Tune", Arkansas Times (Little Rock)
"With such a huge, soulful voice, one would be surprised to see that Skinny White Chick is in fact a skinny white chick. As humble and self-effacing as they come, Skinny White Chick laid down [four] hypnotically melodic songs in Studio B for a demo release. Backed by the multi-layered rhythm section of local favorites, Stout, Skinny White Chick offers to us a variety of sonic emotion not often captured on tape."
Memphis Records In the Studio, 6/4/03
"Memphis' Skinny White Chick sings with the passion of a Diva gone a bit mad. Her songs are hauntingly mesmerizing, yet catchy and memorable. Don't miss out. This Chick will be remembered for a long time."
Bernadette Holzer "Soule Feste", Wolvenwold News (West Plains)
"S J Tucker has a strong voice and engaging presence. Skinny White Chick can bring something interesting to the local scene and is well worth keeping an eye on."
Chris Herrington "Moment of Truth", The Memphis Flyer
